PhotoShelter's first student-to-pro photography competition, Elevation 2008, has announced five winners: Tiana Markova-Gold, studying at the International Center of Photography, Matt Lutton of the University of Washington, Mary Amor of the Art Center College of Design, Antonio Pulgarin of the Fashion Institute of Technology and Carla Richmond of the New England School of Photography. Judges included art directors, creative directors and photo editors of Newsweek, Fader, Spin, Nylon and The New York Times Magazine.

In addition to profiles in the PhotoShelter Collection Editors' Showroom, each winner will receive a custom portfolio from Brewer-Cantelmo, free prints from AdoramaPix and promo cards designed and printed by SB Design. PhotoShelter editors will also be conducting on-on-one portfolio reviews and providing the winners with three free months of the company's Personal Archive.

Elevation 2008 aimed to offer the next generation of pro photographers an introduction to the major players in the publishing industry. According to CEO Allen Murabayashi, encouraging student entry into the PhotoShelter community furthers the company's goals of leveling the playing field, encouraging diversity and providing fresh imagery to buyers.
