The ultra-cool image of Steve McQueen still appeals to advertisers and audiences nearly 30 years after his death. Licensing the rights to use McQueen’s likeness from Corbis, Ford will use it to promote a limited-edition 2008 Mustang Bullitt. Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the film by the same name, even the green color of the car recalls the car-chase classic. In addition to being the exclusive representative of McQueen’s name, image and likeness, Corbis holds similar rights to cultural icons including Albert Einstein, the Wright Brothers and Sigmund Freud.
