The Cologne, Germany-based medicapicture has launched Educational Pictures, a subscription product that targets students, teachers and institutions in medicine and related fields.

Established in 2002, medicalpicture currently offers over 100,000 rights-managed photographs, graphics, illustrations, three-dimensional animations and videos devoted to medicine, health, pharmacology, science and nutrition. The agency sells through its own Web site and is also exclusively represented by AP Images in North America.

In an effort to become a source of comprehensive reference material for the medical profession, the new Educational Picture combines medical imagery with detailed descriptions of the subject matter. By paying a monthly subscription fee, students and educators gain access to the database. They have an opportunity to integrate professionally produced imagery into dissertations, presentations and other academic materials.

Monthly subscription fees range from €2.90 for students to €4.90 for teachers. Pricing for organizations is determined on a case-by-case basis.

In addition, Educational Picture expands medicalpicture's image-buyer base from traditional designers and publishers into another specialized industry. The academic service promotes the medical image library by offering savings of up to 50% to subscribers purchasing images for commercial uses in print and online resolutions.
