Photojournalist James Nachtwey, lauded for contemporary coverage of war, conflict and social issues, has used the $100,000 TED Prize to document extreme drug-resistant tuberculosis. The images were unveiled at xdrtb.org and the TED Prize Web site, as well as in Time, which has had a longstanding relationship with Nachtwey. Awarded to three recipients each year, the TED Prize combines cash with the granting of “one wish to change the world.” Nachtwey’s images will be displayed on screens set up around the world to raise awareness of the disease that the photographer sees as an under-reported crisis.
