Professional and student photojournalists are invited to apply for one of Getty Images’ editorial grants by Nov. 15. Recipients, typically chosen by a jury of well-known photo editors and photographers, will be announced in February and September 2009. This year’s judges will be announced in October.

The Getty editorial grant program is now in its fifth year. The student grant category is new, designed to identify and encourage up-and-coming talent around the world. Four $5,000 grants will be awarded to students under the age of 30, enrolled in a full-time accredited photojournalism course. The first two grants will be awarded in February.

Getty will continue to award five grants of $20,000 each to support working photojournalists. Two of these will be awarded in February and three in September.

In addition to the monetary award, both student and professional-level grant recipients will also receive project support from Getty Images photo editors.

Applications must include a 500-word proposal that explains the scope, significance and journalistic merit of the applicant’s chosen project. The company also requires a 20 to 25-image portfolio of previous work. Guidance is available on the Getty Images Web site.
