Bruce Morris joined Jupitermedia Corp. as senior vice president and general manager of JupiterOnlineMedia. The ex-president of Source Media's banking group will oversee four networks (Internet.com, EarthWeb.com, DevX.com and Graphics.com) and JupiterEvents, which produces conferences and trade shows.

Xcavator.net Adds iStockphoto Images

Although CogniSign's new stock-photo search engine Xcavator.net is still in beta, it announced the addition of iStockphoto's 1.8 million royalty-free images to the database. Previously, the inventory was limited to Photovault's 300,000 rights-managed images. The beta remains limited to these two providers.

Xcavator.net plans to index more images by other stock agencies. According to Lenny Kontsevich, the scientific lead on the project, the company has also developed a purely shape-based recognition technology. It has been tested and will be added as a separate tool on Xcavator.net later in the year.

Thought Equity to Distribute NBC News Footage

The leading motion content company made a deal to digitize and distribute select images from the NBC News library. A large collection of news clips and programs going back several decades will be made available in production-quality downloads through Thought Equity's real-time technological delivery system. According to CEO Kevin Schaff, Thought Equity Motion will also apply its digital restoration process to NBC's original footage.

age fotostock Expands in Sweden

The Barcelona, Spain-based age fotostock says that a new distribution deal will expand its business in Sweden, which has been an important market for the stock agency. IBL Bildbyrå, a local stock, editorial and news-content company, will now distribute age fotostock's rights-managed and royalty-free collections, which consist of more 1.5 million images. In addition, age fotostock's proprietary technology is being integrated into IBL's Web site.

Corbis Awards Miami Ad School Student

The New York-based Art Directors Club named recipients of its 2007 National Scholarships. The $5,000 Corbis Award for Overall Creative Excellence went to Shawna Laken of the Miami Ad School. Laken's work scored the most points in the competition and included a pro-bono print campaign for a fictional homeless relief agency. Laken beat out students from the Art Center College of Design, Parsons School of Design and the School of Visual Arts.
