Electric Lane is offering a new course of image keywording. The one-day event, scheduled for Jan. 15 in London, will allow image industry professionals to learn from Liisa Kaakinen, the former head of metadata at Amana Productions and currently in charge of keywording and thesauri for Amana image distribution in the West.

The course will focus on consistent keywording practices, based on industry standards and image-buying trends. Content will include keywording schemas, controlled vocabularies and thesauri, and productive methods of captioning and keywording. A particular focus will be on the needs of global agencies that supply images for secondary distribution.

Electric Lane is a digital-imaging and picture-archiving consultancy established by Sarah Saunders, the former chief executive officer of the British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies. Saunders is an expert in picture archiving and commercial image licensing, is chair of BAPLA’s metadata group and its representative on the IPTC Photo Metadata Working Group and at UPDIG.

In addition, Electric Lane holds accreditation for short courses in digital imaging from Skillset, the U.K.’s Sector Skills Council for Creative Media. A joint venture of the government and the private sector, Skillset supports training for individuals and businesses, ensuring that U.K. creative industries remain competitive in the global market.
