The Annenberg Foundation has made a $75,000 grant to host the 2009 education, awards and exhibition program of Pictures of the Year International. POYi, now in its 66th year, is a photojournalism program of the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute, University of Missouri.

The 2009 POYi competition is open for entries through Jan. 15. The Annenberg grant will bring POYi to Los Angeles, where the soon-to-open Annenberg Space for Photography will host presentations, workshops and the photojournalism awards ceremony in mid-July. The 50-print POYi exhibit and digital presentations will remain on public display for three months. Attendance to all POYi events will be free of charge.

The newly 10,000-square-foot LA facility was commissioned and constructed by the Annenberg Foundation “to inform and inspire the public by connecting photographers, philanthropy, and the human experience through powerful imagery and stories.” The Penn.-based charity was established in 1989 and provides support and funding to nonprofits globally.
