Ohio U Sweeps College Photojournalism Competition

Ohio University took home 28 awards in the 62nd annual College Photographer of the Year competition. Ohio U's Travis Dove won the highest honor.

Hosted by the University of Missouri and sponsored by Nikon, Poynter Institute, Missouri Photo Workshop, National Geographic and the National Press Photographers Foundation, the CPOY competition receives around 500 entries from 100 colleges and universities. The competition selects winners in various photojournalism categories, such as spot news, general news, feature, sports, domestic or international picture story and documentary.

Western Kentucky University, San Francisco State University, University of Missouri and Brooks Institute of Photography also had impressive showings, with 13, 12, 11 and 10 awards each, respectively.

The competition was judged by: Kathy Kieliszewski, deputy director of photo and video, Detroit Free Press; Richard Koci Hernandez, deputy director of photography and multimedia, San Jose Mercury News; Susan Smith, deputy director of photography, National Geographic; and Mike Stocker, staff photographer, South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
