More than that 500 participants from more than 250 agencies and 33 countries will attend the
CEPIC Congress in Berlin from June 5th through June 7th 2014.
Among the important issues to be discussed at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday June 4th will be the future of the CEPIC Image Finder (CIF) technology. The CIF, first demonstrated in 2013, would make it possible for customers to more easily locate image creators, or organizations that represent creators, so customers can properly license rights to works they want to use. The CIF would reduce the number of images declared Orphaned Works and would be an important step to reducing the number of unauthorized and uncompensated uses of images found on the Internet.
There will also be a discussion of the Rights Data Integration (RDI) project and a demo of the CIF on Saturday, June 7th between 10:30 and 12:30. Speakers will include: Andrew Farrow, Rights.com, RDI project manager; Godfrey Rust, Rights.com, RDI technical advisers, specialist on identifiers; Alfonso Gutierrez, President of CEPIC and Sergi Grino, developer of the IRS (Image Reverse Search).
Metadata Conference
The Congress will also host the 8th annual Metadata Conference, organized by
IPTC, on Thursday June 5th 2014 as part of the CEPIC 2014 Congress in Berlin. A focus of this day long event will be the management of video metadata of video in a way which aligns with existing photo metadata concepts and workflows.
An aim of this conference is to pin precise requirements for annotations of video content. One of the speakers will be Mary Forster, Sr. Director of Search Strategy for Getty Images, who has been focused on making images findable in the stock photo industry since 1993. As the industry has evolved, she has led change and innovation in the area of keywording and search.
There will be presentations and discussions from companies with a long-term focus on video and its metadata as well as video management software

Google Images Workshop
On Friday June 6th from 14:30 to 15:45 there will be a workshop that examines the different versions of Google Images and their impact on the picture business in various national markets.
Google Images has become a free-of-charge online database of photos, offering users images at the highest resolution, at the top of its search results, at no cost (with no return for content creators and/or IPR holders) and often contrary to the applicable copyright.
The workshop organized by
ICOMP will deal with the questions: How can we reduce the harms caused to the industry? How can we defend IPRs and/or copyright in the online photography industry? How can content creators and IPR holders protect their investments? How can we foster creative incentive and return? What is the best solution?
The panel will be moderated by David Wood, ICOMP Legal Counsel and the speakers will include:
- Dr. Thomas Hoppner, Lawyer at Olswang for competition law, has drafted EU anti-trust complaints for CEPIC and German Publishers Associations against Google
- Michael Schilling, Photographer and initiator of the campaign “Defend your Image” / Verteidige Dein Bild in 2013
- Michael Weber, Director, hot-maps. As Vice President European Affairs Euro-Cities, he will on the impact of Google on the Internet mapping industry
- Prof. Dr. Jan Bernd Nordemann, Lawyer at Boehmert & Boehmert, specialist in the field of copyright and competition law, has filed the Euro Cities complaint against Google
- Dirk Feldmann, Representative of FREELENS, German Association of photographers, who has filed a copyright complaint against Google in Germany
- Cathy Aron, Executive Director of PACA – Digital Image Licensing USA – on a US view on Google and Google Images
