Will Terapixel Resolution Help Professional Photographers?

Will Quantum Dots make the next generation of camera technology so much better that it will dramatically separate the quality of the work of professional photographers from those using smartphones and give the professional a new leg up?

A story on thephoblographer.com points out that the Quantum Dot technology is much more efficient than the CMOS technology used today.

In the future we might be talking about a camera’s resolving power in terms of terapixels instead megapixels. That’s great for camera manufacturers because they will be able to sell new equipment. New lens may be necessary because the new technology will be able to distinguish detail in a scene to a much finer degree than currently possible.

But for the vast majority of subject matter being photographed, will anyone really care? My guess is that this new technology may have some value for certain highly specialized technical subjects, but for 99% of everyday photography the CMOS technology will be fine for a long time. Very few customers will be demanding terapixel resolution.

Check out the story and see what you think.
