Visa pour l’Image panel to discuss Photographer, Picture Agency Relationships

Within the framework of Visa pour l'Image, CEPIC is organizing a roundtable with photographers, picture agencies and photographers cooperatives exploring the "Relationship between Agencies and Photographers: Art + Commerce or Photographers and Agencies - Making this Symbiotic Relationship Work"

The panel will be held in Perpignan on Wednesday 31 August 2011 at the Palais des Congrès from 16.30 H – 18.00 H, Salle Jean-Claude Rolland. Languages used will be French and English with simultaneous translation.

Questions around the globalization of photography, what agencies do and don't do for their photographers, do they matter, what money do photographers make with agents, how the business model affects the relationship will be dealt with.

Scott Mc Kiernan, veteran photographer, and CEO of ZUMA Press in the United States, will moderate a prestigious panel comprising of representatives of Photographer’s associations and picture agencies associations, as well as collectives and picture agencies, a photographer and a picture editor.

The panel is organized, with the collaboration of ASMP (United States), which is sponsoring the simultaneous translation French – English, and UPP (France).

    • Anthony HARRIS, CEO and founder of Cultura – and former Getty Images - (UK)
    • Hélène LAGRANGE, picture editor Prisma Presse Group (France)
    • Eric LARROUIL, CEO of the Agence VU (France)
    • Eugene MOPSIK, Executive Director of ASMP (USA)
    • Philippe SCHLIENGER, President of the UPP (Universal Product Protection - France)
    • Maurice WEISS, photographer, Ostkreuz (Germany)

Visa pour l’image is the premier International Festival of Photojournalism and is held in Perpignan, France. The Festival of Perpignan takes place in September over 2 weeks, the first week is for the press and professionals. The festival features more than thirty exhibitions, debates, conferences as well as a slide show thirty-something at Campo Santo and the Place de la Republique.
