Posted on 4/2/2014 by Jim Pickerell | Printable Version | Comments (0)

ASMP has announced two webinars later this month that should be of value to stock photographers and stock photo agents. Both are free if you sign up and listen at the scheduled time. These webinars will also be recorded and made available within a week after the event through a web link. ASMP members will be able to listen to them for free. Non-members will be charged a fee of $4.99.

Marketing The One True You

The first webinar will be Marketing the One True You with Colleen Wainwright. It is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, 2014 between 1:00 - 2:00 pm EST. In addition there will be a question and answer session at www.facebook.com/asmpnational from 2:00-2:30.

Many stock photographers are recognizing that they may need to focus more on the assignment side of their business in order to be less dependent on the revenue that can be earned from stock images. But making the transition from shooting stock to finding customers who need to have something shot is not easy.

In an increasingly crowded marketplace, standing out and attracting the right audience is harder than ever. Marketing maven Colleen Wainwright, aka the Communicatrix, has long noted that the most effective marketing is less about yelling and selling, and more about “the truth of you translated into the language of them.” Wainwright will discuss how to recognize and communicate the truth of you in your marketing efforts so you can reach and connect with the right audience for your work.

The Expansion of Fair Use

The second webinar is The Expansion of Fair Use with Nancy Wolff. It is scheduled for Tuesday, April 29, 2014 between 1:00 - 2:00 pm EST.

In recent years, the Fair Use Doctrine has been used to successfully defend an ever broadening array of unauthorized uses. This expanded application of Fair Use is rapidly becoming the biggest threat to the continuing monetization of photography. Join host Richard Kelly for a conversation with IP attorney Nancy Wolff, author of The Professional Photographer’s Legal Handbook, who will provide the creator’s perspective on this critical and controversial area of Copyright law.

Anyone who hopes to license rights to stock images in the United States in the future should be aware of how “Fair Use” may eat into their business.
