The Natick, Mass.-based Absolute Stock Photo is experimenting with a "one-time use" license that combines features of both royalty-free and rights-managed models. Offered on all 70,000 images in Absolute's inventory, the new license allows either one month of online image use, print use limited to a one-time run of100 pieces or production of one art print.
The licensing fees start at $15.10, which is significantly lower than the agency's usual price point. Absolute licenses most royalty-free photos for between $90 and $150, and extra-large, rights-managed images retail at close to $300.
Absolute says the one-time use license combines the simplicity of the royalty-free structure with the benefits of the rights-managed model. Allowed uses include both commercial and editorial, and the cost reflects buyers paying for exactly the type of use planned.
