On the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 13, six Washington, D.C.-area photographers will participate in a panel discussion sponsored by the American Society of Media Photographers and LiveBooks. Covering subjects from creativity to marketing, the event will be held at the Center for Digital Imaging Arts of Boston University’s Georgetown campus.

Moderated by photographer Steve Uzzell, the panel will also include shooters Sam Abell, David Burnett, Annie Griffiths Belt and Bruce Dale, as well as National Geographic’s former director of photography Bob Gilka, who spent 25 years with the publisher.

All panelists have done extensive work on the National Geographic magazine coverage. Abell has also published nine National Geographic book titles and one of his own, “Sam Abell: The Photographic Life”(2002). Burnett, recently named of the 100 most important people in photography by American Photo, has worked with clients such as Life, Time, Fortune and ESPN. Griffith Belt is the current National Geographic photographer in residence; her work has also appeared in Life, Smithsonian, Fortune and American Photo. Dale, with over 2,000 of his images published by the National Geographic, is now shooting editorial and advertising work for the likes of Acura, Allstate, American Airlines, Epson, Nikon and Mack Truck. Gilka is currently a professor of photography and picture editing at Syracuse University. Moderator Steve Uzzell is shooting for commercial clients and traveling around the globe with “Open Roads, Open Minds,” a creative problem-solving exploration based on images from his 35-year career.
