SnapVillage, which has been building its collection since its
June 2007 launch, is now serving image buyers worldwide.
Previously, the Corbis-owned Web site only transacted business in the United States, though it accepted contributions from elsewhere. According to senior vice president Adam Brotman, the expansion to global image-buyer markets dramatically broadens the customer pool and will help drive growth. SnapVillage.com remains an English-only platform.
In November, SnapVillage reported having 125,000 images. It has since added another 35,000. Brotman previously said that the company receives many images not sold through other microstock companies, attributing this to the company's 30% photographer commission and price points of up to $50.
Though SnapVillage is now officially open for business, Corbis promises to continue "to actively listen and incorporate customer feedback while accelerating enhancements to the Web site."
