Shutterstock has launched a new keyword suggestion tool for iPhone that leverages a combination of metadata (man) and pixel data (machine) to suggest more relevant and accurate keywords for images that are uploaded in the
Shutterstock contributor app.
The technology now uses artificial intelligence to assess the full collection of more than 94 million images and identify those images that are visually similar to the uploaded image. Then it generates relevant and previously successful keywords (i.e. keywords that led to an image being licensed) for contributors to choose from.
This saves time for artists and photographers around the world who are asked to manually input up to 50 keywords for each image they upload to the Shutterstock marketplace - a tedious task on a small device!
Here’s a brief overview of the new upload process:
1. Open the Shutterstock contributor app (iOS only) and enter your login credentials. Navigate from the Activity tab over to the Submit tab, and tap the + button in the upper lefthand corner to begin a new submission.
2. Choose your image from the tray and upload; once that’s completed, you can select it from your submission column to start editing the metadata.
3. Tap into the keyword entry field and you’ll see a panel full of suggested keywords optimized for your image.
4. Choose from the curated list and add any other keywords you’d like.
5. Once you’ve entered between 7 and 50 keywords, save the image to your queue or submit it for review.
