After 146 years as a weekly, the British Journal of Photography is returning to the monthly format it launched with in 1854. According to the announcement by editor Simon Bainbridge, the move responds to the changing publishing landscape, where news content is migrating to the more immediate medium of the Internet.
BJP plans to further develop its already popular Web site, adding features and ongoing coverage. But it also plans to beef up the print monthly: “While many magazines are cutting costs and chasing readers that now have an allegedly shorter attention span, we are investing, rewarding them with a redesigned magazine that uses higher quality paper, has superior repro and delivers more depth,” said Bainbridge.
