The brainchild of Digital Vision founder Mike Watson, moodboard is leading the traditional market segment in adopting business practices pioneered by Web 2.0 companies. The U.K. agency has accepted images irrespective of a contributor’s professional status since its launch—now, it has launched an online FTP upload facility that makes contributing even easier.
Unveiled at last week’s PhotoPlus Expo in New York, the “funky uploader,” as the company calls it, offers photographers cutting-edge functions that many more established businesses are still trying to perfect. These include IPTC support, customizable displays of uploaded images and batch editing of keywords and other metadata.
Moodboard also introduced online sales reports for its contributors.
The goal, according to Watson, is to capitalize on the potential of hobbyist content, offering contributors higher revenues than rivals such as iStockphoto. Moodboard currently offers images at all price points, from micro to the highest end of the traditional spectrum. The company seeks more photographers and says its investment in technology is designed to free up shooters’ time to take pictures.
