The Stock Artists Alliance has announced its affiliation with the National digital Stewardship Alliance, a newly formed organization dedicated to preserving digital collections for the benefit of citizens.
The Library of Congress is organizing NDSA as an outgrowth of the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program. NDSA is a collaborative effort among government agencies, educational institutions, nonprofits and corporate entities.
According to Lauren Campbell of the Library of Congress, SAA’s Photo Metadata Project serves as a starting point for the work of NDSA. Launched to promote industry-wide use of standardized photo metadata in every digital file, the metadata project identified current photo industry practices and preservation problems, developed the educational Web site Photometadata.org, and conducted outreach and promotional activities to improve metadata handling. NDSA aims to build on this progress.
