NBC Sports has selected Denver-based Thought Equity Motion as exclusive content-licensing agent. The is the second deal for the two companies; Thought Equity has been the exclusive rep NBC News content for the past two years.
According to Thought Equity, NBC is among companies who are capitalizing on the dramatic increase in online video consumption by monetizing non-live content. “Online publishers and advertisers are scrambling to produce engaging online and mobile video entertainment quickly and cost-effectively, creating a huge market opportunity for media companies,” said the two companies in a statement.
The NBC Sports collection spans 25 year of the French Open, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes races, Notre Dame football and the Olympics—from scenic footage to athlete interviews. The network is now home to 8 of the top 10 most popular U.S. television events. For example, the Beijing Olympic Games set a new record: with 215 million viewers, it became the most-watched event in U.S television history.
Thought Equity is also the exclusive licensing agent to Sony Pictures, MGM, National Geographic, the NCAA, HBO and a number of other well-known media companies. The motion-content company says it is now the largest film and video rights holder in the world.
