Jerry Tavin of IC Worldwide and Deborah Free of Picturehouse Marketing have launched an international non-profit educational foundation. The Young Photographers Alliance will focus on bringing disadvantaged students opportunities for advancement in photography.
According to the founders, the elimination of art education in public schools and rising costs of college education are directly affecting photography students and could have a negative long-term effect on the industry. YPA intends to offer support in the form of scholarships, mentoring programs, internships and educational seminars, on an international scale.
In addition to scholarships provided by the two founders, Alamy was first to pledge a third scholadrship for 2009 YPA recipients, which will be announced in October in New York.
