ASPP Reorganizes

Darrell Perry has been named Executive Director of ASPP (American Society of Picture Professionals) and has written to members and friends informing them of recent changes and asking for help in recruiting new members.

At the end of last year, ASPP's National Board voted to reorganize two key elements of its business—the position of the Executive Director and the quarterly magazine, The Picture Professional. This meant analyzing and revising the Executive Director job description, by re-prioritizing the role and duties of the position, finding a new Director, completing the run of the print version of the magazine, and surveying the organization, with an eye to remedying its weaknesses and enhance its strengths.

After a difficult transition period, which is ongoing, Perry was installed as Executive Director, the final print issue was completed. They are creating a plan to reconstitute the National Board and find ways to strengthen the Chapters. They plan to restructure the financing so they can start sending funds to the Chapters for event organizing and program building. Thus, giving the Chapters more tools to build membership and spread the word of ASPP.

Also, very importantly, a business model was created for a wholly digital, web-only, six-times yearly magazine, thepictureprofessional.com that will start publishing October 1st, 2016. The magazine’s editor, Debra Hershkowitz, is currently seeking contributions for this new magazine. She can be contacted at qcucubgb@irevmba.arg. Digital versions of previous editions of the magazine can be found here.

The American Society of Picture Professionals, Inc. (ASPP) is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (6) corporation. Incorporated in 1969, ASPP is uniquely positioned to create forums for multi-disciplinary discussions on the ever-evolving photography industry. The association has maintained its balance of members drawn from the whole spectrum of the business, from photo researchers and editors, agency personnel, photographers, licensing managers, archivists and publishers to designers and teachers. Through our regional chapters, national programs, quarterly magazine and informative website, ASPP provides an open exchange of information on industry ethics and standards, business practices, and the needs created by new technology and ideas.
