Last year a positive partnership between content creators and internet service providers (ISPs) was created to better educate internet users on legal options for receiving entertainment content online and to inform consumers who repeatedly engage in infringement that their actions are inappropriate.
As part of this initiative, the Copyright Alert System (CAS) and the Center for Copyright Information (CCI) were established. Visit CCI's website for more information here
Since the creation of the Copyright Alert System, Internet Service Providers have been conducting extensive research and developing the appropriate technology to ensure that any notices sent to consumers who are allegedly engaging in illegal content streaming or downloading are legitimate. After thorough testing and review by notable technology experts, the ISPs have just announced they will begin to implement the system.
Though the new CAS will begin by targeting consumers who are engaged in illegal streaming of movies, music and TV shows via P2P networks, the Copyright Alliance
hopes that the heightened awareness the program will bring about online rules that will help with the protection of all art forms.
