Free Photos

A reader just forwarded to me a list of 50 sites with free photos. One of the interesting things about some of these sites is that a few of the photographers didn’t intend for their images to be made available for free. By using PicScout’s ImageExchange I was able to determine that a number of the best images on the few sites I checked seem to have been grabbed from paid sites, particularly Dreamstime.

Readers may be interested in searching some of these sites to see if any of their images appear on them. For photographers who are trying to earn a living from the images they produce it is bad enough that there are so many free sources for images. But, when the images being offered on these sites are images that the photographers had hoped to license for a fee that's a lot worse.

This is by no means a comprehensive list of free sites, but it is at least an indication of how difficult it will be for photographers to license rights to their images in the future.
