It is always interesting to hear what Jonathan Klein has to say. Recently he was interviewed by Tara Fuller, editor of American Express’
Open Forum, a pro business website designed to “power small business success.”
Klein said, “We want the company to be the best place in the world to work, … and to inspire our tens of thousands of artists whose work we are privileged to represent.”
In the comments section in response to this very upbeat article Andrew Prokos wrote, “Try asking any photographer what they think of Getty Images and you'll get a far clearer picture. Getty has used its monopoly status to bludgeon its photographers into submission. Every year they get handed contracts which steadily grab more rights and compensate them less. Getty even created their own in house studio to rip off the concepts that their contributing photographers originated; then dumped the photographers. Klein's recent strokes of genius include buying micro-stock photo agencies and crowd-sourcing Flikr amateurs. Getty's business practices are akin to clear-cutting a forest, rather than pursuing sustainable business models. Klein is largely to blame for that.”
