Top Footage Distributors

More and more photographers have started to produce stock footage as a way to grow their business. Clearly, there is increasing demand for video clips as well as a greater need for video than still images. One of the questions I’m frequently asked is “What are the best companies to represent my work?”

I’ve talked to many footage suppliers. There is general agreement that the following are the top ten stock footage distributors worldwide and that combined they they generate about 50% of total worldwide revenue. ACSIL, the trade association for stock footage producers, conducted a survey in 2015 (http://www.selling-stock.com/Article/stock-footage-business-at-550-million-annuall) and concluded that the worldwide footage market generates $550 million in revenue annually.

It is generally accepted that Getty Images is number one and Shutterstock is number two in terms of gross revenue. The rest of the organizations on the list are in no particular order as it is difficult to get gross sales data.

Although I do not challenge the point you are making about the top 10 I do think you are overlooking the major value that can be found by joining a smaller library who can offer a more personal relationship, frame more clearly what the market needs and, by their specialist position, deliver better pricing. There are far more than 10 such libraries which opens up a greater range of partners with which to work and offers the opportunity to building a closer, long term, partnership.

Sorry Jim, but l'INA is the French government institution aimed to gather, publish and sometimes sell elements of the French audiovisual heritage.
it has nothing to do with a stock company, and no reason at all to be in this list.
