In November of last year we wrote about World Assignments
an organization designed to help buyers find photographers who worked in
various locales around the world or had expertise in working in such locations.
At the time the organization offered customers a choice of
more than 1,500 photographers with various levels of expertise and seemed to
have promise. Today, CEO Pierre Pankotay announced to his photographers that
the company was closing down operations.
Hesaid, “After three years of hard work and commitment,
we have not managed to reach the critical size regarding the number of both
photographers and clients. This critical size is the cornerstone of the
global and qualitative service we expected to provide you with. After several strategies tested and a long period of questioning, it appears
that the only choice left is to shut the service down.”
Pankotay assured photographers “that all portfolios and surrounding data will
be securely deleted from our servers,” and that paying users will be reimbursed
for the unused portion of their service contracts.
