According to an eMarketer study in 2012 U.S. marketers are expected to
spend more on online advertising than on newspaper and magazine ads
combined. Marketers are expected to spend $39.5 billion this year compared to $33.8 billion on print.

Thriving Archives have released the results of the ACSIL Global Survey of Stock Footage Companies 2 (AGS2). The AGS2 is a comprehensive examination of current business conditions within today's footage industry, providing strategic, action-oriented information and insights to footage industry leaders.
In 2011
Pond5’s collection grew to over 900,000 and is expected to reach 1 million by early 2012. Currently this is largest collection of video clips on the web. In addition, the site offers 7.6 million still photos, 677,000 illustrations, and one of the deepest audio collections in the world, with more than 200,000 sound effects and 100,000 music tracks. Pond5 also has a small collection of customizable After Effects templates.

here. Canon’s new Cinema EOS system includes a new interchangeable-lens digital video camcorder, and seven 4K EF cinema lenses. The launch held in Hollywood with Martin Scorsese as guest speaker, and in Berlin marks Canon’s official entry into the motion-picture production industry.

iStockphoto is celebrating completion of its fifth year in the stock video business by
discounting all video purchases by 15 percent from October 17th to 23rd.

Corbis Images has acquired
Splash News for an undisclosed amount. From its Los Angeles base Splash provides candid celebrity photography and video content to the world’s premiere print, online and broadcast media distributors of entertainment news.
BigStock is introducing a new strategy for licensing microstock images. Their pay-as-you-go system allows customers to pay with a credit card for only those images they want to use immediately and not be forced to purchase packages of credits. There is no minimum purchase.
The IPTC (International Telecommunications Council) is challenging
vendors across the media industry to create the conditions for
interoperability for metadata embedded in media files. Following
a 2006 Metadata Manifesto issued by the Stock Artists Alliance, the
IPTC has created a new updated document the Embedded Metadata Manifesto
to cover all media types, including stills and video. The manifesto
outlines a set of 5 principles.
iStockphoto has announced the launch of its premium-quality Vetta video collection with clip prices that range from 55 to 150 credits (credit prices vary from $0.99 to $1.54 depending on the size of the credit package purchased). Currently there are over 300,000 video clips on iStock, but only a few thousand of the best are in the Vetta collection. However, it is expected that the Vetta collection will grow rapidly. Approximately 5,000 videographers have contributed clips to iStock.
